The rumors sweep across the Empire and citizens and non-citizens alike are caught up by them. The Senate has been in an extended session and it is said that what they debate are the Emperor’s recommendations for the abolition of slavery in Illumin. In the far off provinces commoners argue the issue in taverns and bars like old politicians while many of the provincial nobles have begun to quietly levy militias and horde their tax revenues.
Now, after weeks of closed doors the Emperor and the Senate are holding court to allow the nobility and the citizens to be heard. Now is the chance for the Illumin people to witness where their leaders stand on this contentious issue. And of course, these are the Illumin courts, where obscured motives and secret agreements are a more esteemed tradition than the Emperor’s crown of laurel.
With unexpected guests, a possible execution and the looming threat of civil war, this is a pivotal moment in the grand history of the Empire.
