In the highlands of Culberon, the five Great Clans come together to deal with the fractures in their kingdom. While some Culberrans welcome a new age of peace and prosperity with their neighbors at the end of the war with the Stealer of Dreams, the clans remain suspicious of the motives of the new Illumin Emperor and cautious about how Ikhten will rebuild in the postwar era. King James Stewart struggles to maintain solidarity in the face of apathy and anger from the other Great Clans, and the druids continue to hide secrets from the rest of Culberon. With Verrakan privateers arriving along the coast to engage in trade and Illumin ambassadors proclaiming their goodwill but still skirmishing on the border, Culberon has its hands full in maintaining solidarity . . . and that’s not even counting the mischief that comes up when the Fair Folk show up . . .
